Using your Financial Aid at the Bookstore

Pell Book Allowance Procedures

Pell eligible students with complete Pell files will be allowed to charge required books and supplies against their Pell award at the bookstore.. Keep in mind your Pell award after tuition and fee charges have been deducted may not be sufficient to cover the cost of books. Please check your Pell award information on BannerWeb.

The bookstore has computerized cash registers and will have the authorized book allowance on file. All students must have a North Georgia Technical College photo ID which must be presented at the book store for identification purposes. Students may not charge against their Pell award online or over the phone. Please check the bookstore schedule for hours of operation at the following: https://northgatech.edu/students/bookstore.

HOPE Eligible GED Voucher Procedures for Books Purchased at the Bookstore

Recipients of the $500 HOPE GED Voucher may use these funds at the bookstore if a balance is available after tuition and fees have been paid for the term. The HOPE GED Voucher should be presented to the Financial Aid Office no earlier than the first day of class. The bookstore has computerized cash registers and will have the authorized book allowance on file. All students must have a North Georgia Technical College photo ID which must be presented at the book store for identification purposes. Students may not charge against their HOPE GED award online or over the phone. Important Information Regarding Recalculation of Awards for Students Who Withdraw or Stop Attending

Classes Dropped During the 3 day - 100% Drop Period:

Students who drop all classes before the 100% drop period ends will be responsible for repaying all Pell funds used at the bookstore.

Pell Grant Recalculation Procedure for Students Who Withdraw or Stop Attending all Classes

Title IV funds (Pell Grant) are awarded to a student under the assumption that the student will attend school for the entire period for which the assistance is awarded. When a student withdraws, the student may no longer be eligible for the full amount of the Title IV funds that the student was originally scheduled to receive. This means that students who withdraw or stop attending classes must have their award re-calculated and may owe back funds used at the NGTC Bookstore.

Scholarships

Scholarships are administered through a partnership between North Georgia Technical College and the North Georgia Technical College Foundation. Scholarship applications are available online, in the Foundation Office, and in the Financial Aid Office.

Grants

Grants are the most attractive forms of financial aid because money given in the form of a grant does not have to be paid back after graduation.

Loans

Loans should be used as a last resort to pay for educational expenses. Although it is not NGTC’s policy to encourage students to incur additional debt for their college education unless all other sources of aid have been exhausted, we have included a section containing additional information should you need it.

VA Benefits

Veterans’ Benefits will be available both to veterans and spouses as well as children of disabled or deceased veterans. More information is available from area Veterans' Administration Offices.

WSGM

WorkSource Georgia Mountains (WSGM) assists with educational expenses (tuition, fees, books, required supplies, gas, and childcare) for up to two years.

Work Study

A good option for funding is work-study. This federal program provides you with part-time employment on campus to give you work experience while also helping you meet your financial needs. It's a great way to earn money for college while getting involved in your campus community.
