2019 Rick Perkins Award winner

North Georgia Technical College recently announced Danielle Vaughn, Culinary Arts Instructor from the NGTC Blairsville Campus, as the 2019 Rick Perkins Award for Excellence in Technical Instruction winner.

The Rick Perkins Award honors the Technical System of Georgia’s most outstanding instructors. The award is designed to recognize technical college instructors who make significant contributions to technical education through innovation and leadership in their fields. Instructors are nominated by their peers and submit their answer to a single question: “Why I chose to teach in technical education.” The answers are reviewed by a panel of judges and a winner is chosen at each technical college.

“I am a graduate of North Georgia Tech so technical education for me is very important. I like to think part of the reason I am where I am today is because I am a product of technical education,” said Vaughn. “I like to pay what I do forward to the students. I want to be as much of a positive influence on their lives as my instructors were on mine. I want our students to make an impact, not only in their field, but in our community as well.”

For winning at the college level, Vaughn was presented with a plaque from NGTC and a cash prize on behalf of the Rotary Club of Union County.  Vaughn will attend the next round of competition early next year with hopes of becoming the state winner.

We have outstanding instructors here at the college and to be chosen for the Rick Perkins award is an honor.  I am looking forward to representing our college at the regional and state competitions,” says Vaughn.

Other nominees for this year included Mallory Hicks, English instructor, Brenton Birr, Emergency Medical Services instructor and Vanessa Lone, Medical Assisting Instructor.

North Georgia Technical College is the first technical college in the state of Georgia, and is part of the Technical College System of Georgia. Its main campus is in Clarkesville, with additional campuses in Toccoa and Blairsville. For more information, visit or call 706-754-7700.
