Several North Georgia Technical College students from the Blairsville and Clarkesville campuses recently competed in the Georgia North District Phi Beta Lambda competition at Reinhardt University and brought home numerous awards.

Susie Berry of Cleveland, Ga., won first place overall as the Future Business Executive as well as 5th place in Job Interview. Savannah Swing of Cleveland, Ga., received second place in Management Concepts and fourth place in Retail Management. Domonique Leach of Savannah, Ga., placed second in Future Business Teacher, and Daniell Hill of Clayton, Ga., won first place in both Financial Analysis & Decision Making as well as Financial Services.

NGTC also competed in Battle of the Chapters at the event, and the Clarkesville Campus Chapter won first place while the Blairsville Campus brought home second place.

“I’m really proud of all of the students that traveled to compete,” said Emily Sullens, PBL advisor for the Clarkesville campus. “They stepped out of their comfort zone and took a competitive test or spoke in a performance event. Each one of our students placed in the top 5 in at least one of their events, and that really speaks well to the instruction each student receives as well as their natural ability to compete.”

“I am very proud of all of our students’ willingness to venture out and prove themselves in a very competitive range of areas,” said Tim Green, PBL advisor for the Blairsville Campus. “This opportunity gives them an idea of what skills the industry needs. The areas they compete in help them to hone their talents to be better prepared for industry and workforce development skills.”

The students will represent NGTC as they travel to Atlanta in April to compete at the state level.

Phi Beta Lambda is the post-secondary level of Future Business Leaders of America and is open to any college student.
