Clarkesville, GA — North Georgia Technical College (NGTC) student Megan Howell of Toccoa, Ga., was selected as the college’s 2025 winner of the Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education (EAGLE) competition for her superior achievement in adult education classes and programs.

The EAGLE program is the first statewide initiative in the nation to recognize and reward excellence among students enrolled in adult education programs. This student recognition program aims to create greater awareness of educational opportunities available in local communities across the state and to foster greater involvement in lifelong learning pursuits.

Howell attended adult education classes at the Currahee campus of NGTC and the Hope Center in Stephens County. She completed her High School Equivalency in the spring of 2024 and is a certified peer specialist. Currently enrolled at NGTC, Megan aspires to become a licensed substance counselor.

In addition to the EAGLE student award, NGTC named Jacqueline Townley of the White County Adult Education Center as the Outstanding Adult Education Teacher of the Year.

Townley began teaching in the adult education program at NGTC in 2018. The Technical College System of Georgia’s Outstanding Adult Education Teacher of the Year award recognizes educators who have made exceptional contributions to adult education programs. This award highlights the dedication and resilience of teachers who play a crucial role in transforming the lives of their students and communities.

Both Howell and Townley will represent North Georgia Technical College at the Dinah Culbreath Wayne EAGLE Leadership Institute, March 3-5, 2025, in Atlanta, GA.

“North Georgia Technical College is thrilled to celebrate the achievements of both Megan and Jacqueline, who exemplify the dedication and resilience that make adult education such a vital component of our community,” said NGTC Dean of Adult Education Shelby Ward. “We are so proud that they will represent our college at the next level of competition.”
