Clarkesville, GA – North Georgia Technical College (NGTC) provided food to more than 180 families in Northeast Georgia during the drive-thru mobile food pantry on Thursday, Aug. 28, at the Clarkesville campus CDL Driving Range.

The community-wide initiative was part of the college’s Welcome Week festivities and reinforces the college’s vision “to elevate the quality of life for the individuals and communities we serve.” The mobile food pantry received outstanding support and volunteers from the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia and Neighbors 4 Neighbors (N4N) Food Pantry.

“We are honored to have the opportunity to partner with organizations like the Food Bank of Northeast Georgia and N4N to impact lives within the communities we serve,” said NGTC Campus Life Director Sherry Seal. “We are ecstatic that we were able to serve 181 families and look forward to offering more drive-thru food pantries in the future.”

“I am proud of our faculty and staff for successfully planning and executing this initiative,” said NGTC President John Wilkinson. “While Welcome Week is a time to fellowship and build relationships with our students, these faculty and staff volunteers took it a step further by extending a hand to the public – a small step toward building a better future for all.”

In addition to the mobile food pantry, NGTC provides a year-round food pantry, Feeding the Pack, for students, faculty, and staff experiencing food insecurity. All supplies are based upon donations and are available to NGTC students and staff each week, Monday through Thursday.

Donations to Feeding the Pack are accepted Monday through Friday and may be brought to the Carlton Student Center located on the Clarkesville campus of NGTC. Wish list items include canned meats, beans (dry or canned), canned goods, peanut butter, snack foods, bottled waters, paper products, diapers and wipes, and feminine hygiene products.

The NGTC Carlton Student Center is located at 1500 Highway 197 North. For more information regarding the Feeding the Pack Food Pantry or mobile food distribution, visit northgatech.edu/feeding-the-pack or call Sherry Seal at 706-754-7730.
