Clarkesville, GA – North Georgia Technical College (NGTC) hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony today to celebrate the reopening of Purcell Hall, which now serves as the home of the college’s Electrical Systems program.
Under the leadership of instructor Gary Hosemann, Electrical Systems students will use the newly renovated space to gain hands-on training that prepares them for in-demand careers across the region.
Purcell Hall, originally built in 1969, has been a cornerstone of the NGTC campus for decades. The building previously housed the Precision Machining program before that program relocated to the Industrial Technology Center in 2019. Renovations to Purcell Hall were made possible through $4.75 million in state funds, ensuring the facility is equipped to serve today’s students and future generations.
The building is named in honor of Dr. Claude Purcell, former Georgia State School Superintendent, whose leadership and service advanced education across the state. With its new role supporting Electrical Systems, Purcell Hall continues its legacy of providing high-quality technical training.
Today’s ribbon cutting brought together faculty, staff, Electrical Systems students, and members of both the NGTC Board of Directors and the NGTC Board of Trustees. Guests gathered to celebrate the building’s history, its ongoing role in workforce development, and the opportunities it will continue to provide for students and the community.
“Purcell Hall has been an important part of North Georgia Technical College for more than 50 years, and we are excited to see it continue serving our students in this new way,” said NGTC President John Wilkinson. “This building represents both the proud history and the bright future of technical education at NGTC.”
