Credentials You Can Earn

As a conditioned-air specialist, you may work alone or with a team, work outdoors or stay in an office, work for others or be your own boss - the opportunities are endless!

Students have the option of pursuing either a degree or diploma in Air Conditioning Technology. Graduates are prepared for positions as entry-level technicians in the refrigeration, air conditioning, and heating fields.

The programs emphasize a combination of refrigeration, air conditioning and heating theory, and practical application necessary for successful employment.

Air Conditioning Technology

The Air Conditioning Technology program is a sequence of courses that prepares students for careers in the air conditioning industry. Learning opportunities develop academic, occupational, and professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. The program emphasizes a combination of theory and practical application necessary for successful employment. Graduates of the program receive an Air Conditioning Technology Associate of Applied Science Degree.

Diploma

Air Conditioning Technology Diploma

The Air Conditioning Technology diploma program is a sequence of courses that prepares students for careers in the air conditioning industry. Learning opportunities develop academic, occupational, and professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. The program emphasizes a combination of air conditioning theory and practical application necessary for successful employment. Program graduates receive an Air Conditioning Technology diploma and have the qualifications of an air conditioning technician.

Certificates

NGTC‘s Air Conditioning program offers ­­­­­3 certificates for those who want to specialize in a particular area or to refresh the skills they may already have:

  • Advanced Commercial Refrigeration Certificate
  • Air Conditioning Electrical Technician Certificate
  • Air Conditioning Technician Assistant Certificate

Career Opportunities

Individuals who graduate from NGTC’s air conditioning program can hit the ground running if they choose to become:

  • Any type of heating, air conditioning, and/or refrigeration (HVACR) mechanic or installer

Graduates of the Air Conditioning program may work in a variety of fields including:

  • Residential HVAC services
  • Commercial HVAC services
  • Ship Building 

There are many employment fields that require skills similar to those required to be an HVACR technician such as:

  • Maintenance Workers
  • Millwrights
  • Plumbers
  • Pipefitters

Meet the Faculty

Glenn Jordan

Glenn Jordan first became associated with North Georgia Technical College in 1976 while studying business and accounting.  After graduating, he continued his education and achieved an Associates Degree from Truett-McConnell College. For many years, Mr. Jordan worked in manufacturing as a supervisor and in maintenance.  When choosing to return to NGTC, he took advantage of the free test prep courses offered at the college and then enrolled in the Air Conditioning Technology program in 2006.  Even before he had completed the program, he had started his own business, Priority Air Inc., which currently serves over 400 customers. Bryan Hartzog - black polo

Bryan Hartzog

A graduate of Stephens County High School, Bryan Hartzog, first came to North Georgia Technical College in 1997 as an electrical student. Afterwards he joined his father’s business as a remodeling contractor in northeast Georgia. During that time, he returned to North Georgia Technical College and completed the Air Conditioning Technology Diploma program while also working for Priority Air Inc. performing HVAC installs, change-outs and service. Soon after graduation he was employed at Northeast Georgia Housing Authority as a Maintenance Mechanic I where he was responsible for maintaining over 130 HVAC units. Mr. Hartzog holds an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Air Conditioning Technology and joined North Georgia Technical College as a full-time instructor in 2019.   Contact:  bryan.hartzog@northgatech.edu
