NGTC’s Air Conditioning Technology program offers both men and women excellent employment opportunities. As a conditioned-air specialist, you may work alone or with a team, work outdoors or stay in an office, work for others or be your own boss - the opportunities are endless!
Students have the option of pursuing either a degree or diploma in Air Conditioning Technology. Graduates are prepared for positions as entry-level technicians in the refrigeration, air conditioning, and heating fields.
The programs emphasize a combination of refrigeration, air conditioning and heating theory, and practical application necessary for successful employment.

Air Conditioning Technology Degree
The Air Conditioning Technology program is a sequence of courses that prepares students for careers in the air conditioning industry. Learning opportunities develop academic, occupational, and professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. The program emphasizes a combination of theory and practical application necessary for successful employment. Graduates of the program receive an Air Conditioning Technology Associate of Applied Science Degree.
Air Conditioning Technology Diploma
The Air Conditioning Technology diploma program is a sequence of courses that prepares students for careers in the air conditioning industry. Learning opportunities develop academic, occupational, and professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. The program emphasizes a combination of air conditioning theory and practical application necessary for successful employment. Program graduates receive an Air Conditioning Technology diploma and have the qualifications of an air conditioning technician.
NGTC‘s Air Conditioning program offers 3 certificates for those who want to specialize in a particular area or to refresh the skills they may already have:
- Advanced Commercial Refrigeration Certificate
- Air Conditioning Electrical Technician Certificate
- Air Conditioning Technician Assistant Certificate
Individuals who graduate from NGTC’s air conditioning program can hit the ground running if they choose to become:
- Any type of heating, air conditioning, and/or refrigeration (HVACR) mechanic or installer
Graduates of the Air Conditioning program may work in a variety of fields including:
- Residential HVAC services
- Commercial HVAC services
- Ship Building
There are many employment fields that require skills similar to those required to be an HVACR technician such as:
- Maintenance Workers

Meet the Faculty
Jordan first became associated with North Georgia Tech in 1976 while studying business. After graduating, he continued on and achieved an Associates Degree from Truett-McConnell College. For many years, Mr. Jordan worked in manufacturing as a supervisor and in maintenance. When choosing to return to North Georgia Tech, he took advantage of the free test prep courses offered at the college and then enrolled in the Air Conditioning Technology program in 2006. Even before he had completed the program, he had started his own business – Priority Air – which currently serves over 400 customers. Jordan began his teaching career a few years ago as an adjunct instructor for the evening courses offered at NGTC. Contact: firstname.lastname@example.org.
With an impressive 21 years of experience, his resume includes responsibilities in large industry maintenance with Baycor Royalty Tencate USA and also as a business owner of Xtreme Conditions Heating and Cooling. Barry enrolled in the NGTC program in 2004 as a part of his pursuit for professional licensing and certification. Upon his graduation, he began teaching as an adjunct in the evening. In February, 2010, he took the opportunity to make teaching a career and accepted a full-time instructor position with the college. Contact email@example.com.
