Credentials You Can Earn

The Marine Engine Technology program is designed to prepare students for careers in Marine Engine Technology and related fields. The program emphasizes a combination of Marine Engine Technology theory and practical application using specialized facilities that include a covered back-in test tank and two drop-in test tanks in a sound controlled lab for outboard motor testing.

Topics covered include:

  • Safety, marine fundamentals, and precise measuring
  • Marine 2-stroke and 4-stroke engine fundamentals and service
  • Marine engine electrical and electronic systems
  • Marine engine starting and charging systems
  • Marine engine fuel systems and fuel injection
  • Marine outdrives and outboard gear cases
  • ...and much more

 

Program faculty maintains contact with area marinas and marine-related organizations for job placement referrals. Program graduates receive a Marine Engine Technology diploma and may work as outboard service technicians, stern drive and inboard service technicians, rigging and installation technicians, warranty and customer service representatives, parts specialists, parts managers, and service managers.

Marine Engine Technology Certificate

The Marine Engine Technology Certificate program prepares students for careers in Marine Engine Technology and related fieldds.  Learning opportunities develop academic, technical, and professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement.  The program emphasizes a combination of Marine Engine Technology theory and practical application necessary for successful employment in the field. Program graduates receive a Marine Engine Technology certificate which qualifies them as entry-level marine engine technicians.


The Marine Engine program may accept Life Work projects on a very limited basis.  Please consult with the instructor on a particular project that may be appropriate for Live Work.

Morris Harrison

Morris Harrison is a 1979 graduate of the NGTC Small Engine Mechanics Program. Morris began his career with North Georgia Tech in November, 1985, as the Small Engine and Marine Engine Mechanics Instructor. Through the years he has received numerous awards and recognitions including NGTC Rick Perkins Instructor of Excellence nominations and most recently the NGTC Alumni Career Achievement Award.  Mr. Harrison also serves as the NGTC SkillsUSA coordinator.  Contact:  mharriso@northgatech.edu.
