The Pharmacy Technology associate of applied science degree is designed to provide an individual with the entry-level skills required for success in a retail pharmacy or a hospital-based pharmacy department. Learning opportunities develop academic and professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. Graduates are prepared to function as pharmacy technicians in positions requiring preparation of medications according to prescription under the supervision of a pharmacist.


The Pharmacy Technology diploma is designed to enable the student to acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes for employment within a pharmacy. Program graduates will be able to perform a variety of technical duties related to preparing and dispensing drugs in accordance with standard procedures and laws under the supervision of a registered pharmacist. A variety of clinical experiences is designed to integrate theory and practice. Graduates will be employable as an entry-level pharmacy technician.

Upon completion of the program, students may receive a diploma or an associate degree and be prepared to sit for the Pharmacy Technician Certification exam

Christy Bivins

Department Chair for Health Science

Christy Bivins completed her Bachelor’s degree from the College of Pharmacy, University of Georgia.  She is a registered pharmacist, and has been practicing pharmacy for twenty years. Ms. Bivins is dedicated to technical education, NGTC, and to each student who comes through her program.  She makes every effort to achieve excellence in her program and around the college campus in general.  She works diligently at fostering relationships with area employers and professional organizations and keeps her program up to date with industry demands.  She is always willing to participate in student events and has been the lead advisor for Student Leadership Council for several years.  Ms. Bivins is also the Health Sciences Department Head and as such, she sets goals for continuous improvement and insists on high quality program delivery. Christy, who began as an adjunct instructor at NGTC seven years ago, brought the program forward to the Associate of Applied Science level as a full-time faculty member.  She continues to work part-time at Clarkesville Drugs which enables her to stay abreast with changes in the industry.  Contact:
