LPN to ASN Bridge Program

The Associate Degree in Nursing (Bridge Option) Program is designed to provide an opportunity for Licensed Practical nurses to earn an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing. The curriculum is designed to produce highly-trained, technically-advanced, competent, and caring individuals who are prepared to practice professional nursing in a variety of healthcare settings. The purpose of the program is to provide the learner with the necessary knowledge, skills, and attitude to practice competently and safely as a beginning nurse generalist, in a variety of acute and long-term care settings. The nurse is viewed as a caring, holistic person who possesses critical-thinking/problem-solving skills, integrity, accountability, a theoretical knowledge base, refined psychomotor skills, and a commitment to life-long learning.

Graduates are then eligible to apply and take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). Upon successful completion of the NCLEX RN and licensure by the Georgia Board of Nursing, graduates are employable as registered nurses in a variety of settings.

LPN to RN Bridge Program

Program History

On January 19th, 2023, the Georgia Board of Nursing approved North Georgia Technical College’s Feasibility Study and Application to begin the development of the Associate of Science Degree in Nursing Program Bridge Option. This is a tremendous opportunity for our college, community, and local health partners. The first cohort is projected to begin January 2024.

About the Program

The Associate Degree in Nursing (Bridge Option) Program is a 65-total credit hour program. Completion of the 33 core class credits will vary according to the credit load and flexibility in scheduling for each student. The 32 credits for nursing classes are completed as a cohort and require 4 semesters to graduate.  The program is designed to produce educated, technically advanced, competent, and caring individuals. Under the supervision and guidance of the nursing faculty, students in the LPN to ASN Bridge Program receive classroom instruction and coordinated clinical experiences in the nursing care of clients at local hospitals and community agencies.

The LPN to ASN Bridge Program provides a strong foundation in the practice of nursing and prepares students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to function as an entry-level registered nurse in a variety of healthcare settings. Such settings include but are not limited to, hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, home health care, clinics, physician’s offices, government or private industries, and public health agencies.

Graduates of the LPN to ASN Bridge Program who meet the program requirements are eligible to write the National Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN). Upon successful completion of the NCLEX-RN, graduates are then licensed and are employable as registered nurses in the state in which they intend to practice.

For graduates who wish to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree, NGTC has established transfer agreements with select four-year colleges to facilitate a student’s transition from an ASN to BSN degree.

According to the United States Bureau of Labor and Statistics, employment of registered nurses is expected to grow 15% from 2016 to 2026, making nursing one of the fastest-growing occupations in the state of Georgia1.

North Georgia Technical College does not require vaccination for program admission; however, each clinical/practicum site reserves the right to deny a student entry based on their own policies and procedures.
