NGTC’s cosmetology curriculum meets state licensing requirements of the State Board of Cosmetology. Students receive specialized training in skin, hair, and nail care, as well as reception, sales, and salon management. Graduates who also complete state licensure requirements are employable as cosmetology salespeople, cosmetologists, salon managers, or salon owners.

The program emphasizes specialized hands-on training in:

  • Safety and sanitation
  • State laws, rules, and regulations
  • Chemistry, anatomy, and physiology
  • Skin, hair, and nail diseases and disorders
  • Hairstyling
  • Hair coloring
  • Haircutting
  • Chemical texture services
  • Skin and nail care
  • Salon sales and management
  • Plus opportunities for live work serving the public in the campus salon

Highly qualified instructors with real-world experience want students to fall in love with cosmetology, complete the program with success, and obtain the knowledge to acquire the State Board license. Most of all, they want graduates to have the self-assurance to walk into a salon and go straight to work with confidence.

Cosmetology for Licensure

The Cosmetology for Licensure program is a sequence of courses that prepares students for careers in the field of cosmetology. Learning opportunities to develop professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. The program emphasizes specialized training in safety, sanitation, state laws, rules and regulations, chemistry, anatomy, and physiology, skin, hair, and nail diseases and disorders, hair treatments and manipulations, hair shaping, hair styling, artificial hair, braiding/intertwining hair, chemical reformation and application, skin and nail care, hair coloring, hair lightening, reception, sales, management, employability skills, and work ethics. The curriculum meets the state licensing requirements of the State Board of Cosmetology. Program graduates will receive a Cosmetology for licensure certificate and are employable as a cosmetology salesperson, cosmetologist, salon manager, or a salon owner.

Hair Designer Certificate

The Hair Designer certificate is a sequence of courses that prepare students for careers in the field of hair design. Learning opportunities develop academic and professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement. The program emphasizes specialized training in safety, sanitation, state laws, manipulations, hair shaping, hair styling, artificial hair, braiding/intertwining hair, chemical reformation and application, hair coloring, hair lightening, reception, sales, management, and work ethics. The curriculum meets state licensing requirements of the State Board of Cosmetology.

Live Work

Live work includes projects which are approved to provide realistic training for students. Students and members of the community may have services rendered in those programs and departments conducting live work. The Cosmetology programs on the Blairsville and Clarkesville campuses provide live work services in the salons on campus as scheduled during semester instruction.
