Job Title: Summer Camp Counselor

Job Description: 

This position is responsible for ensuring a fun and safe environment while coordinating a variety of activities in the summer camp program by directing and supervising staff and large groups of children ages 5-12.

Major Duties:
• Lead and instruct games, crafts, and activities appropriate to assigned group of campers as directed by supervisor.
• Responsible for safety and welfare of campers on field trips to pool and various locations throughout the summer.
• Handles medical, safety and severe weather emergencies per the procedures noted during in-service training; completes reports including accident and incident reports as needed.
• Assists with gymnastics activities and skill stations including instructing, demonstrating, and spotting.
• Assists in daily set-up and clean-up of camp including maintaining cleanliness of facility and restrooms.
• Organizes and maintains all equipment and supplies. Performs regular visual inspections of camp equipment and notifies supervisor of defective equipment.
• Participates in in-service training as required; participates in weekly staff meetings.
• Performs related duties.

Desired/Required Skills: 

Education/Experience: 

• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for two years.
• Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Georgia for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
• Possession of or ability to pass the training course for certification in American Red Cross CPR and Standard First Aid.
• Possession of or ability to pass the training course for certification in Darkness to Light Stewards of Children.

The successful candidate must pass a Background/Reference Check, and Pre-Employment Drug Screenings prior to the start of employment.

Hours: Part Time
