Job Description: 

Under general supervision, the General Maintenance Technician is responsible for performing skilled and semi-skilled work associated with the maintenance and repair of the college’s facilities and grounds.

Major Duties:

  • Installs, maintains, repairs Electrical Systems
  • Installs, maintains, repairs commercial and residential HVAC systems. Including, but not limited to boilers, chillers, p-tacs, split systems and ductless systems.
  • Installs, maintains, repairs refrigeration systems, including walk-in coolers, walk-in freezer, reach-in coolers, residential refrigerators.
  • Installs, maintains, repairs, and renovated Plumbing system and hardware
  • Assist with renovation projects as assigned, carpentry, glazing, plumbing, and painting projects.
  • Participates in the repair and maintenance of college equipment and vehicles
  • Participates in grounds maintenance activities, including installing and maintaining landscaping, applying herbicides and pesticides, and maintaining parking lots
  • Uses and maintains a variety of tools, materials, and equipment
  • Maintains required records, and logs
  • Coordinates the work of maintenance and custodial staff as directed by supervisor.
  • Responds to emergency requests for repairs
  • Other duties as assigned
  • May require on-call maintenance during evening, weekend and holiday hours

Desired/Required Skills: 

  • Knowledge of the tools, equipment, materials, and practices of building and grounds maintenance
  • Knowledge of safety guidelines, policies and procedures
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and HVAC system maintenance and repair
  • Skill in the operation of computers and job-related software programs
  • Oral and written communications skills, skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public
  • Ability to read, interpret and apply construction plans, specifications and blueprints
  • Must be able to perform physical activities such as, but not limited to, lifting heavy items(up to 50lbs unassisted), bending, standing, climbing, and walking.
  • Knowledge of chemicals (MSDS) to include how they are used and react when mixed
  • Must hold an EPA 608 Universal Certification

Driver’s License Requirement: Valid GA Driver License

Education/Experience: 

A high school degree or GED *and* One (1) year of experience in a skilled trade (electrical, carpentry, plumbing) or building maintenance.
