Clarkesville, GA – North Georgia Technical College’s (NGTC) free adult education classes are set to resume in Hiawassee, Ga. Beginning May 23, adults can register for classes focused on improving basic reading, math, and/or written communication skills. These courses are flexible to accommodate students’ goals, whether that is succeeding in the workplace or pursuing education beyond high school.

The NGTC Adult Education Center will be located at the Towns County Recreation Center, 900 N. Main St., Hiawassee, Ga. However, while the facility is undergoing renovations, classes will temporarily be held at Fire Station 4 located at 411 Sunnyside Rd., Hiawassee, Ga.

To allow students flexibility, NGTC Towns County adult education classes are available on a drop-in basis Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2-7:30 p.m. Instructors can assist students with building basic skills and/or preparing for the GED® or HiSET® exams to obtain high school equivalency. NGTC adult education classes, including all books and materials, are completely free.

“We are so excited to offer adult education classes in Towns County,” said Shelby Ward, NGTC dean of adult education. “This will be a great opportunity for residents to expand their skills.”

Deanne Oppermann will serve as the instructor for Towns County adult education. Oppermann has 27 years of experience as a community college instructor and a history of success in adult education. In 2012-2013, she was selected as the top instructor from 58 community colleges in North Carolina.

“It is a privilege to work with adult education in Towns County,” said Oppermann. “I look forward to making a positive difference in the lives of the students I encounter, so please stop by to register.”

Registration will take place May 23, 28, 30 and June 4, 6, 18 from 2-7:30 p.m. at Fire Station 4 (411 Sunnyside Rd., Hiawassee).
