Clarkesville, GA — North Georgia Technical College (NGTC) student Bria Wells of Cleveland, Ga., and Adult Education Department instructor Dr. Kay Chitwood of Alto, Ga., represented North Georgia Technical College as the college’s student and instructor of the year at the Dinah Culbreath Wayne Exceptional Adult Georgian in Literacy Education EAGLE (EAGLE) Leadership Institute in Atlanta March 1-2, 2023.

The Technical College System of Georgia through its Office of Adult Education sponsors the annual Dinah Culbreath Wayne EAGLE Leadership Institute which is the first national statewide program that recognizes and rewards excellence among students enrolled in adult education programs. This recognition program is designed to create greater awareness of educational opportunities that are available in local communities across the state and to foster greater involvement in lifelong learning pursuits.

Wells completed her High School Equivalency through the North Georgia Technical College White County Adult Education Center in May of 2022 and is currently enrolled in classes at NGTC in Clarkesville. After completing her core classes at NGTC, she plans to transfer to Gwinnett Technical College to study Medical Sonography. Her dream is to work as a neurosonography technician in the future and to continue to set an example for her daughter through determination and hard work.

Dr. Chitwood is a full-time instructor and has taught in the NGTC Adult Education Department for seven years. In addition to teaching day and evening high school equivalency preparation classes on the Clarkesville campus, she teaches soft skills to the inmates of Lee Arrendale Transition Center in the Economic Development Department’s welding cohort and is certified as the Adult Education Curriculum for Adults Learning Math instructor.

“Bria and Dr. Chitwood represented NGTC well at the 2023 Dinah Culbreath Wayne EAGLE Leadership Institute,” said NGTC Dean for Adult Education Shelby Ward. “Bria has worked tremendously, and we are so very proud of her accomplishments. She has a very bright future ahead! And Dr. Chitwood is such a dedicated instructor who goes above and beyond for her students. She provides quality instruction, utilizing all available technology, and we celebrate her wonderful achievement and are very proud of her excellent work with her students!”
