Clarkesville, GA — North Georgia Technical College celebrated the naming of the Blairsville campus library as the “Linda Johnston Library” after the college’s longtime librarian on Sept. 1, 2021.
Linda Johnston of Blairsville served as librarian at the nearby campus from 1998 to 2012 and was known to many of the students as a guiding light to their academic work and an encourager to continue their studies to successfully reach graduation. Prior to her work at NGTC, Johnston served as librarian at West Georgia Technical College (formerly Carroll Technical College) from 1995 to 1998, and as a librarian for the United States Army in various locations since 1978 including Hawaii, Germany and Fort McPherson, Ga.
“The students loved Linda and many of them were teetering on the verge of giving up, but Linda would not let them,” said Johnston’s husband, Charlie Johnston. “She would counsel them, inform them of the importance of having a certificate or degree, not just for financial reasons but for self confidence. Everyone who worked with Linda knew they could depend on her loyalty.”
“Being a part of the celebration for Linda Johnston was such a joy.” said NGTC Director of Institutional Advancement Cynthia Brown. “I have always admired her dedication and commitment to the college and our students. Honoring her was a privilege and one which was enjoyed by everyone attending.”
A plaque was placed in Linda’s honor outside of the library and reads: “North Georgia Technical College Blairsville Campus Linda Johnston Library dedicated in honor of former librarian Mrs. Linda Johnston in honor of her hard work establishing the library facility on this site and in recognition of honorable service to her country and faithful dedication to the students, faculty, staff and community served by North Georgia Technical College.”
