Clarkesville, GA — North Georgia Technical College (NGTC) students brought home top awards from the recent SkillsUSA state competition held in Atlanta. The NGTC SkillsUSA Chapter received a total of seven medals representing various programs in the competition.  

Culinary Arts student Hannah Nelson of Blue Ridge, Ga., won the gold medal in Restaurant Services, and Quintavious Heard of Toccoa, Ga., placed fourth in Culinary Arts.   

Photography students Jarrod Coffey of Martinez, Ga., Savannah Sanchez of Tiger, Ga., and Carson Sprinkle of Clarkesville, Ga, competed in the Photography contest and won the gold, silver, and bronze medals, respectively.  

Welding student Tanner Smith of Blairsville, Ga., won the silver medal in Welding, and James Ramey of Demorest, Ga., Tommy Hagerty of Cornelia, Ga., and Ashton Stefanini of Toccoa, Ga., won the bronze medal in the Welding Fabrication team competition.   

Joel Nava of Lithonia, Ga., won a silver medal in the Automotive Refinishing contest. 

Other students who competed and represented NGTC included Electrical Systems Technology student Michael Beeland of Homer, Ga., who competed in Residential Wiring, and Automotive Collision Technology students Yoheldry Gonzales of Mt. Airy, Ga., and Aaron Thompson of Adairsville, Ga., who both competed in Collision Repair Technology. 

“We are extremely proud of all of these students,” said NGTC Vice President of Academic Affairs Mindy Glander. “Many of them have stepped out of their comfort zone to participate and compete in SkillsUSA. Their success is a true testament to their skill, commitment, ability and our faculty who have helped them the entire way.  I could not be more proud of the faculty and students for their accomplishments.” 

SkillsUSA is a career and technical student organization that develops citizenship, technical, leadership, and teamwork skills essential for students who are preparing for the workforce and further education. Gold medal winners will advance to the national SkillsUSA Leadership and Skills Conference and Competition that will be held in Atlanta June 20-24, 2022.
