Clarkesville, GA – North Georgia Technical College (NGTC) students recently brought home top awards from the 2023 SkillsUSA National Leadership and Skills Conference (NLSC) held in Atlanta. These students advanced to nationals after winning gold in their respective program areas during the 2023 Georgia Postsecondary SkillsUSA Conference in March 2023.  

Casity Whitley of Dahlonega, Ga., received silver in Practical Nursing. The Practical Nursing competition focused on contestants’ abilities to perform skills and procedures relevant to practical nursing as determined by State Boards of Nursing. Contestants were also judged on their knowledge of medical terminology; body structure and function; nutrition; medications; and nursing care. 

Photography students Caitlin Flowers of Cleveland, Ga., and Elias Arrendale of Demorest, Ga., placed fourth in Digital Cinema Production, and Welding Technology student Ashton Stefanini of Toccoa, Ga., placed eighth in Welding. Culinary Arts student Carson Lofton of Jasper, Ga., competed in Baking and Pastry Arts. 

“Under the guidance of their dedicated faculty advisers, these aspiring students from North Georgia Technical College swept through a series of intense competitions, highlighting their extraordinary skills, exceptional teamwork, and innovative thinking,” said NGTC Vice President of Academic Affairs Mindy Glander. “Their outstanding achievements serve as a testament to the excellent education and training offered at the institution, affirming its commitment to nurturing future professionals.” 

“I am very proud of these five students for representing North Georgia Technical College at the national SkillsUSA conference and commend them on their outstanding achievements,” said NGTC President John Wilkinson. “I would also like to recognize the NGTC faculty and advisers who have worked diligently to help these students achieve success. I look forward to witnessing their continued success in their future endeavors.”
