Dr. Mark Ivester’s Legacy Lives On at TCSG Headquarters

Clarkesville, GA — The legacy of North Georgia Technical College’s late president, Dr. Mark A. Ivester, continues to live on with the Technical College System of Georgia (TCSG) as officials dedicated the newly named “Mark A. Ivester Conference Room” at the state headquarters in Atlanta, Ga.

TCSG memorialized Dr. Ivester last Thursday during the State Board meeting by reading a resolution passed by the TCSG Board of Directors honoring Dr. Ivester and renaming the Chairman’s Conference Room of the TCSG State Boardroom in his memory.

TCSG Commissioner Greg Dozier welcomed members of Dr. Ivester’s family and members of the North Georgia Technical College Executive Team who were present for the dedication.

“I am very honored to be a part of this dedication today and want to thank the board for allowing this opportunity,” said Commissioner Dozier. “As we remember Dr. Ivester today, we think of attributes known to describe him: respect, patience, approachable, optimistic, devoted, caring and committed. He represented what we all strive to represent to all the students and future leaders of this state.”

TCSG State Board Chairman Doug Carter read the resolution outlining Dr. Ivester’s many contributions to NGTC, TCSG, as well as his community and family. The resolution concluded, “Now, be it therefore resolved, the State Board of the Technical College System of Georgia wishes to honor the memory of Dr. Mark A. Ivester for his faithful service and for his outstanding achievements in advancing North Georgia Technical College and its students to new levels of success by naming the Chairman’s Conference Room of the State Boardroom the Mark A. Ivester Conference Room.

Be it further resolved that a plaque with his name be placed outside of the Conference Room to honor the memory of Dr. Mark A. Ivester for his commitment and devotion to North Georgia Technical College and for his distinguished service to the entire Technical College System of Georgia. He will be greatly missed but his passion and love for technical education will be remembered by all who knew Dr. Mark A. Ivester, president of North Georgia Technical College.”

Dr. Ivester’s wife, Eleanor, and sons Andrew and Josh, and his brother Matt assisted with the cutting of the ribbon to the Mark A. Ivester Conference Room and were joined by Commissioner Dozier and Chairman Carter.

Due to CDC cautionary guidelines, the majority of guests attended the meeting virtually, and a video tour of the Conference Room concluded the dedication after the ribbon cutting.
