As a Hospice Aide/ Certified Nursing Assistant, you will:

  • Report directly to the Administrator, Executive Director or Patient Care Manager Senior and function under the direction, instruction and supervision of the Registered Nurse and/or Clinical Supervisor.
  • Help the patient to maintain good personal hygiene.
  • Assist in maintaining a safe and healthy environment.
  • Prepare and serve light meals.
  • Assist in feeding patient when needed.
  • Assist the patient in ambulation.
  • Assist with the safe use of a walker or wheelchair as taught and supervised by the nurse.
  • Assist with light housekeeping tasks such as emptying trash and changing linens.
  • Assist with certain treatments as ordered on the aide plan of care and as allowable in state-specific regulations.
  • Attempt to promote patient’s mental alertness through involvement in activities of interest.
  • Give basic emotional and psychological support to the patient and other members of the household.
  • Report any change in the patient’s mental or physical condition or home situation to the Registered Nurse and members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Demonstrate basic care to the primary caregiver.
  • Practice infection control measures and standard precautions.
  • Provide accurate documentation with visit itineraries
  • Attend staff meetings.
  • Participate in at least one Quality Improvement activity yearly, as assigned by supervisor.
  • Complete documentation in a timely manner as outlined in orientation.

 

Desired/Required Skills: 

  • Hospice heart: compassionate, kind and empathetic to your patients and their families.
  • Comfortable providing care wherever the patient calls “home”.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and composure while supporting others in a time of crisis.
  • Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license.
  • Six (6) months of patient care experience in hospice, home health, ICU, geriatric, or oncology strongly preferred.
  • Additional, preferred experience to help you be successful in a hospice role: hospital Staff RN, Med Surg, PACU, Float pool, ER or emergency room, critical care, acute care, cardiac, geriatric, admissions, wound care, telemetry, nursing home or travel.
  • Current driver’s license and automobile insurance.
  • Current CPR certification
